This page chronicles my effort to install Ubuntu 8.10 on a recently-purchased HP Pavillion dv3510nr notebook. I am very much a novice at Linux, so I suspect it will take quite some time for me to work out all the kinks in this installation. I will continue to add to this page over the coming weeks and months as I make more progress. I hope someone will find it useful.

My initial impression is that Linux compatibility for this notebook is not stellar. Specifically, it uses several devices that seem to have poor or nonexistent driver support under Linux -- an ALPS touchpad (works, but rather sluggish), an ITE 8708 Consumer Infared port/ multimedia remote, and a Validity Sensors fingerprint reader. Each of these types of devices seem to enjoy support under Ubuntu generally, but the particular ones included with this notebook do not.
